How do you eat your rice?

I was in my late 20s when I finished a full plate of rice for the first time. I still remember the joy and satiety after that meal.

Rice is eaten all over the world. Even if it fattens one and has gained bad publicity, It still dominates the meals. In India, It is loved by the majority.

Apart from different kinds of rice, the thing that varies is the way of eating rice.

I have been eating rice since my childhood but my food plate was always dominated by chapatis and 1–2 tablespoons of rice. I would happily finish chapatis first, pick up the spoon and finish the rice with leftover curry.

Are you wondering, what the heck is this write-up about?

My first exposure to looking closely at a different way of eating rice was with my husband after marriage. He never used a spoon and always ate his rice with his hands. I learned and observed how eating rice by hand is a common and also preferred way to eat in many parts of India.

I, however, kept using my spoon with nothing changed for me until our son was born.

I used to feed him dal and rice with my hands. One fine day when he refused to eat, I put the same bite in my mouth and something changed.

Same rice, Same curry but a different taste?

To reconfirm, I made another bite by putting curry within the rice, making an uneven ball with my hands, listening to the music rice made when mashed with curry and took the bite. It tasted even better. I was in shock and utter disbelief at my experience.

Since that day and many years later today, My eyes still light up when I eat rice with my hands, enjoying the symphony of music it makes when mashed with curry and the dissolving texture that it provides.

This write-up may sound dramatic to many of you, But If not, Try this out-

If you have been eating rice with a spoon, ditch that for once. Take your favourite rice and curry combo, dig it with your hands and experience the pure joy of eating rice like never before...

Let me know in the comments if you happen to try this or have a similar experience☺

Cheers!!
